SW Architects was co-founded by Shirley Waldron and Rodrigo Gutierrez in 2002 with offices in London and more recently in Brighton.

We are an Architectural practice that is continuously pursuing a strong design philosophy emanating from an understanding of the client’s brief, context, construction and implementation. We see design as a unique opportunity to make a positive contribution to the built and natural environment; by taking the client’s brief and collaboratively creating spaces for all users to enjoy. We are continuously exploring aspects of low energy design and construction. Where practical, we always encourage the use of natural materials and improved fabric standards aiming for long-term durability, low maintenance and low energy consumption throughout the life of the building. In 2007 the practice achieved a commendation for the British Homes Awards endorsed by the BRE (Building Research Establishment), RIBA and NHBC to explore and design a prototype low-energy home. The project was published in a book ‘Design. The key to a better place’ in 2007.

As London Architects we have an extremely successful planning record, having had dealings with most of the London Borough and Surrey Councils. As Brighton Architects we have expanded our knowledge base into the Sussex region. We are thorough in meeting our client’s requirements and tenacious in obtaining the necessary consents. We structure the projects by following the RIBA work stages and will undertake services on a full or partial basis. Clients are able to select the services as required to meet the project brief.

Our projects have enabled us to develop good working relationships with many clients & partners. We have established partnerships with many complementary disciplines – Structural Engineering, Party Wall Matters, Daylight and Sunlight analyses, Rights of Light, Environmental Assessments, Boundary Determinations, Marketing and Promotional graphics. We can also advise on the selection of quality contractors making our company a one-stop shop for a full service from inception to completion.
